I am an artist that focuses on the complexities and joys of life. I work with a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, performance, and video. As my understanding of these mediums has grown, I often combine them together to make painted sculptures and drawings over prints. Also, I paint with my fingers, as using my hands is more comfortable than holding a brush. This allows me to be closer to my materials, add more of my physicality to painting, and have greater control of the surface. It also gives a thick and gestural look to my work, which feels more authentic to me as a big and clumsy person. At the same time, I let my intuition and playfulness take the lead when creating art. I do not do underpainting, sketches, or other forms of planning. All of my art comes from a need to express an idea stuck inside of me, and I just let that idea come out in the moment I create. Because of this, I often include text in my works. I believe the combination of image and text can enhance each other while also allowing for ideas that the other does not.

Throughout my work, I portray family, friends, pets, animals, and plants in order to show my love and appreciation for them. My love is expressed as action and making art is my action. My work also shows my appreciation of my Mexican American/Texan culture, while also exploring the traumas and faults of my ancestors on my Mexican and white side. I portray distressed bodies and the healing process in my work to show that we can all work to get better in this crazy world. While I cover serious topics, I approach all my work with a level of playfulness and emotional intuition. As an example, I often portray Chucky the Killer Doll to bring in concepts of evil, comfort, family, patriarchy, and silliness into my art. The work I make is often made from recycled or commonplace materials. I do this so I can show that art is for everyone, it can be made in a hyper consumerist world, and that we can make something better out of the crap we are given.  Artists that inspire me are Daniel Johnson and David Alfaro Siqueirso. Johnston has shown me that art can be made despite illness and can be used to process joy and distress. Siqueiros has inspired me to experiment with different paints and to make painting accessible to the public. In total, art is a way for me to show love and to understand what is going on in the world around me.
